Ace of Cups - Reversed

Minor Arcana

This signifies barrenness of the mind or the body. You may be stagnating and satisfied with life.  Love may fail. You may be disappointed and lonely.

If the upright Ace of Cups symbolise for us a flow of feelings, and suggests to us that we need to become aware of how or why we feel in a particular way and what we need to or can do with these feelings - not always necessarily good ones, after-all one can have a feeling of overwhelming love or a temper tantrum!

THEN:-

Reversed may just be saying to us that some sort of disruption can be experienced, it may mean that we are all out of emotion and our cup so to speak has been drained leaving us with that empty feeling.

The Ace is about the potential of a new opportunity therefore again in its ill dignified position it may say that our unhappiness is our own creation because we fail to see the gifts life has to offer us.

The cup shows five streams running out of it into the depths of the water (emotions) and these could well represent our five senses, fully engaged and ready to experience, this suggests to me then that upside down we have lost touch with these senses and have cut ourself off from emotional responses. - what you do here is deny your feelings whether it be about another person or some other situation.

A lot of people see Cups associated with affairs of the heart, so again perhaps here it is rejected love, or are focused on a love that really cannot be.

Cups are also associated with the intuition and mystical abilities, perhaps this is an area you have failed to develop or are ignoring - you are again denying your inner awareness.

The Reversed Ace of Cups suggest here that there is an emotional imbalance going on and one which contributes to you not seeing the potential in your life, or gaining access to that deeper part of the self that allows one to gain a sense of happiness and  self acceptance.

On a very mundane level because the Aces are potential and therefore fertile, this could also represent infertility.

So the Ace of Cups Upside down again is not a happy card, with all that water spilling out in the wrong direction -  :smt089

i agree, all hope has dribbled out and they are holding onto the cup to try to save one last drop, they are imprisoned by their own mind
