I have some very similar pieces, that are part of broken Amethyst geodes, the piece you have is almost certainly quartz, just check that the points have 6 sides and not 4 which might indicate apophyllite considering where you are :)

It's very beautiful :)

The strange thing is it has NO points at all on any of the crystals. That is what makes me think it could be Aragonite. It has a blue tinge to all the crystals.

Oh and all the crystals seem to have 4 sides.

The base looks like typical basalt, so I stick with quartz,  sadly a lot of the broken pieces have the tips knocked off as they are collected.  I have never seen aragonite in this form, have you tested a small piece to check its hardness?

No I have not I have been so awestruck by it.

Also when I run my finger over the edge it has a soft sort of silky and soapy feel to it. Very different than what quartz feels like.
I will do a hardness test on the weekend in the sunlight.

Also the colour is confusing it appears to come from within the palest blue greyish. So hard to describe. I will also take another picture with my camera (the first was taken by hubby with his phone) and get a real close up one to show detail.

Keep watching this post.

What Crystal is this

Post by Crystal Dragon » Sun Sep 16, 2007 11:50 am

Hi,

I am new to this forum but form your description of the feel and colour and the fact that it has no points I believe it could be Celestite it would be good if we could see a closer photo but I really am getting that this is Celestite.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the welcome and glad I could help, if you want to look at another picture of Celestite to compare I forgot to mention that I have a photo on my site it is in
Photo Gallery 5 if you decide to have a look just  click on the photos link in the top menu and then 5 at the bottom of the first page, this may help you feel a little more comfortable, It was getting late when I wrote that first reply and I forgot to mention this.

I am really looking forward to being in this group went over some of the other posts and am really enjoying it.

hi
I am pretty sure it is apophylite.  Have  a similar piece, and from your description of the feel, definitely not quartz.
