Hypnosis while you sleep - Do you have to be in REM?
Hypnosis while you sleep - why is it that some people say this works for them, and other people say it didn't work? Could it be that the hypnotic recording needs to be playing while the person is in REM? And if they're not in REM then it won't work?

Also some subconscious minds are more suggestible than others. That is that they are more likely to accept the hypnotic suggestions which you are giving them in your self hypnosis script, and also more willing to carry out your scripted instructions in your body's responses.
Certain drugs (both prescribed and illegal) and even particular food substances can in some individuals increase the suggestibility of even the most hypnotic suggestion resistant subconscious.
Finally some people do not want to admit that it works as it means that they will need to confront and deal with what happens if they get better, as a result of the self hypnotic therapy. Believe it or not.
One possible exception to this rule is seen in lucid dreamers - people who can suddenly become consciously aware (either spontaneously or deliberately using advanced suggestions) that they are dreaming, while still experiencing and within their dream.
The lucid dream state is believed to give the dreamer special access to much deeper core areas of their subconscious mind, making this method very powerful in getting suggestions to places in our minds where they would not normally be able to reach.
So during lucid dreaming, the general rule about self hypnotic suggestions no longer working, may not apply.

Fortunately the person does not need to be in the Rapid Eye Movement phase of sleep for this to work. The subconscious reprogramming begins as soon as your head hits the pillow. In most individuals by the time they are into REM sleep and dreaming, their subconscious already has quite enough to deal with in the way of creating dream scenarios and performing other mental housekeeping, without simultaneously having to listen to this recording.Could it be that the hypnotic recording needs to be playing while the person is in REM?
