Now vaastu ‘n Feng Shui for your website

Post by swetha » Sat Jun 17, 2006 5:38 am

"We made changes in accordance with the vaastu principles for a kitchenware website. We changed the colour from light blue to green and the results were encouraging."

Brijesh Aggarwal of Indiamart, a website design company says. He admits though that the concept of vaastu and Feng Shui are new but is optimistic that it may catch on and with awareness, it could mean extra moolah for the designers offering websites compliant with these principles.

However some people rubbish it. Says a spokesman of a leading news based web-portal that gets approximately 20-30 lakh hits daily " our website may not adhere to vaastu or Feng-Shui rules but the traffic flow is steady and we see little room for concern."

Website designer Gajraj Redhu argues that for news based websites, their other media vehicles (TV, paper) drive traffic to the site. Similarly for mail-websites and search engines the traffic is by the virtue of utility.

But in case of stand alone businesses wanting to make profit, vaastu and Feng Shui may be worth a try.

Another designer Vipin Gupta opines that Feng Shui and Vaastu could be used as long as they don't come in conflict with design principles or corporate identity.

Enumerating the principles Narang advices that the that the ratio of the page width to height should never be more than 1:2, ideally 1:1. She suggests that the distribution of the layout be such that the North and East bear 25 per cent of the weight while the North East remains empty and the North West bear half the weight and South and South West carry about 75 per cent of the load.

Importantly, the website should be bottom-heavy and any type of projection or retraction should be avoided, Narang explains.

The address of the website should be placed in the South, West or South West. This is also the portion of the website that should be the heaviest. According to Narang the center, 'brahmastaan', should not be occupied with heavy graphics. The same applies for the North, East and North East. Kapoor says that according to Feng Shui the logo should be in the top-middle or the right-hand top corner.

As per Feng Shui the pyramid is a symbol that one should be careful about. It signifies that the energy is being pulled up . So while it may be great for the construction business, using it on a website for furniture would mean its end," Kapoor says.

She advices the use of the metal element in the form of coin shaped cursor for all websites. There is also paraphernalia like the unicorn, fruit and dragons that can be placed on the owner's desk to usher in luck for the website.

As far as fonts are concerned, vaastu suggests that you use ones that are either straight or tilted to the right to "conserve energy."

Auspicious ratios are 1:1, 1:2, 1: 2.5 and 1:1.5. Solid fonts should be placed in the South and West corner, never in the East or North. Also, graphics in stable shapes like rectangle, square and circle are advisable while irregular ones like triangle, trapezium and pentagons will spell doom.

Colours in the website can be on the basis of the zodiac of the owner. Each zodiac is associated with a particular colour and with a particular alphabet, which can be used to determine the colour and the alphabet with which to begin the name of the website. Another way to narrow on the colour for the industry is to match the ruling planet of the industry and that of the owner.

For instance the governing planet of the beauty and publishing industry are Venus and Mercury, associated with white and green respectively.

Feng Shui suggests colours in consonance with the industry. For instance black is ideal for advertising, construction communication, computer and green for entertainment, beauty, hotels, travel industry and banks.

One of the key vaastu principles to remember is that every person is born under a zodiac sign, which has its own lord and the lord has its enemies and friends. So for instance if your zodiac sign is Saturn, the website lord should not be Sun or Mars.

Cutting edge technology is increasingly falling back on ancient knowledge systems or so it seems, with vaastu and Feng Shui experts promising help to ensure more hits and visibility to website designers and clients.

"Vaastu and Feng Shui tend to combine a bit of numerology and astrology. It takes into account a person's zodiac to fine-tune the website and turn around its fortunes," says Ritu Kapoor, a Feng Shui practioner.

The position of different elements affects the performance of the site, explains Dr Smita Jain Narang author of 'Web Vaastu', a book that marries design principles and working of conventional websites with vaastu knowledge.

From the right colours to font, placement of graphics and navigation bar to the correct time to upload the website, the ancient sciences have a solution for all, the vaastu experts say.

Numbers play an important role in web-vaastu. It is a good idea to play around with the number of your birth date. If it 8 for instance emphasis should be laid on 8, 17, 26, 4, 13 etc. Each planet has been assigned a particular number and care should be taken to ensure that the number assigned to the website and the owner should be in harmony with the planets.

Feng Shui also divides each day of the week into the 'rahu kalam' and gulika period the latter being the auspicious time to begin work on the website or upload it.

As for vaastu broadly speaking, the period between Januaury 16 to July 15 is auspicious to start a commence work on a project or upload it.

Yeah...it seems to work for me...I have made small feng shui changes on a couple of my sites..they seem to work..although I must note..the change maybe due the way people react to different colurs on the screen but feng shui certainly could be a factor
