Which decks do you have?

Post by Gem » Fri Aug 03, 2007 3:35 pm

I was thinking about starting some threads about specific decks, and wondered which decks everyone had or which you might be interested in discussing more?

Some of the most popular decks so far are...

Rider Waite Smith
Universal Waite
Thoth Tarot
Gilded Tarot

So which do you have or would like to know more about?

I have the Rider Waite Smith deck. I need to know as much as you can teach me. I am in your tarot 2007 class. It's only been like a week for me really trying to learn.

My list of Tarot Decks:

Title (Publisher)

Black by Luis Royo (Foutier)
Decameron (LS)
Gilded Tarot (Llewellyn)
Llewellyn (bit redunant-Llewellyn)
Lunatic
Manara: The Erotic Tarot (LS)
Quest Tarot (Llewellyn)
Russian of St. Petersburg (US Games)
Tarot Sutra
Tarot ReVISIONed
Tarot of Dreams (Self)
Tarot of the Secret Forest (LS)
Thoth (US Games)
Universal Fantasy (LS)
Witches (Llewellyn)

It depends on the type of reading that I am doing but most of the time, I let the person I am reading for choose which deck they would like me to use. :D However I keep that list even shorter like three maybe four different decks.

decks

Post by Payewacker » Sat Sep 15, 2007 7:39 pm

Hi Gem, i have Robin Wood, Rider Waite, Haindl and Celtic Dragon. I also had the Universal Goddess, but found it to female'ish, i miht be gay but not a queen. Robin Wood is what i started with and got it from a friend of mine doing numerology, the Goddess deck found it's way to her now as i bluntly refused to give her the Robin Wood, excellent conversational skills i have. But with this deck i used the P.Scott Hollander Tarot for beginners. then obviously thi rider waite, although i at one stage had it, but preferred using the RW.

Haindl i find has a lot of imagery of imagery, and to sometimes interpret a image precede by three or four others unessesarily complicate matters. The Celtic Dragon tends to loose some of the original symbolism and only uses upright meanings.

I am wanting to acquire more decks, just as in a collection, i find the artistry incredibly beautifull.

Blessed be.

Hi tabi, and welcome to Mystic Board :)

You have some lovely decks there :)
What do you think of the Tarot of Dreams?

Payewacker I love the Haindl, have you looked at the books by Rachel Pollack? Or we could start a discussion on it in a separate thread and dig deeper into some of the cards?

Haindl

Post by Payewacker » Mon Sep 17, 2007 3:07 pm

Hi Gem,

I would love to do that, the Haindl deck is overpowering to some, but I find it fascinating, especially the artwork.

I haven't realy got stuck in the Haindl deck, although i assigned the Cabbala symbols to my Card descriptions in the Major Arcanum.

This is part reason for me to start digging deeper into the "mysteries" and marvels. It's truly fascinating to see how everything fits toghether.
Did you get my pm regarding this area of study?

Blessed be.

Hi all

I have one called The Dragon Tarot by Nigel Suckling

Dont know if Oracle cards qualify but I have one called The Faeries Oracle by Brian Froud.

They are hard to work with because I do not get as much time as I would like. My life is too cluttered and I need to do some clearing and cleaning. lol

I was very lucky to get the Tarot of Dreams as a gift, it is stunning visual art work. Most have problems with the CGI formatting of it, but Ciro Marchette did an excellent job merging the deck into a cross between medievil fantasy style. Deck is warm to work with, and very opened with me. The court is difficult but it is based a great deal off the Golden Dawn system that you see in the Thoth. I have always been and still am highly impressed with the deck. The Gilded that he did, is a great and less costly deck but for some reason it doesn't hold the same interest with me as the Tarot of Dreams.  If you can afford the Tarot of Dreams is more then worth the cost, unfortunately I believe that he is out and working on a reprint at the moment.

Thank you, btw ;)

I have the Russian Gypsy Fortune Telling deck. For me they have been very accurate when reading for friends and myself.

My Decks

Post by dogstar64 » Sun Sep 23, 2007 9:56 pm

I have the following:

Egyptian Tarot
Celestial Tarot
Spiral Tarot
Medieval Enchantment
Dragons Tarot
The Dragon Tarot
Dragon Tarot (yep they're all slightly different)
Medicine Woman Tarot
Mini Pagan Tarot
Rider Waite Smith

My least favourite is the RWS, I don't really know why other than they have never really 'spoken' to me.  I absolutley adore Medieval Enchantment as each card holds a story for me.  And I do so love my Celestial though I am not yet able to read all the additional information on the cards e.g. astrological and caballic symbolism.

Hi
I have

the RWS normal size and huge size!
the tarot of the cat people
The whitch's tarot (llewellyn)
the Egyptian
The goddess tarot (Kris waldherr)
The Mage tarot ( not really for reading)
And the DC Vertigo tarot by Dave Mckean and Neil gaiman

I mainly read with the RWS deck but love collecting them. I'm looking to get the gilded deck and the one that Rachel Pollack helped with. I've been looking around the site and these manga-ish cards keep popping up in peoples messages, could someone tell me who's they are and there name they look fab! x
