Tarot

The tarot is a deck of 78 picture cards that has been used for centuries to reveal hidden truths.

Tarot cards came into existence Some time in the first half of the fifteenth century. Like the playing cards of the time, the tarot deck included number cards (1 through 10) in four suits, and court cards page, knight, and king. But the tarot deck had more: a queen was added to each of the courts, and 22 special cards, not belonging to any suit, were added. These special cards bore symbolic pictures, with such subjects as the Emperor, the Pope, The Wheel of Fortune, Death, the Devil, and the Moon. The tarot cards were used to play a new type of card game, similar to bridge.
Centuries later, the tarot cards were used to record the true history of the Celtic church and bloodlines of Jesus. The church saw this as an occult and divnation tool and just being in possession of a tarot card would mean death.

The earliest date attributed to tarot cards seen in European museums is 1390.
King Edward the 4th in the 15th century banned the importation of tarot cards.
However, many people did keep the cards, especially the nobility.

With the eventual collapse of the church inquisition times, freedom swept Europe, and as it did, tarot cards became the fashion.
The fact that gypsies subsequently used the tarot cards for divination was quite incidental to there original purpose.

In the past few years, interest in the tarot has grown tremendously. More and more people are seeking ways to blend inner and outer realities so they can live their lives more creatively. They have discovered in the tarot a powerful tool for personal growth and insight.

The tarot can help you understand yourself better and teach you how to tap your inner resources more confidently. You do not have to have "psychic powers" to use the tarot successfully. All you need is the willingness to honor and develop your natural intuition.
