Hand massage?

I dont know if this is the right place to ask, but I was wondering if there is any meaning to having the 'fleshy' part of your palm, below the thumb, seem 'tight' and painful when pressed.

I find myself massaging that part of my hands when I am not concentrating, and sometimes it can be tender and painful.
Although, I find that its a 'nice' pain, to squeeze the flesh near the base of my thumb, and between my thumb and first finger.

Is it anything to think about?
